Commented on Seaweed on beaches in France produce deadly fumes
#12: sorry, wrong. H2S is very foul-smelling, which is lucky, as it warns us long before the concentration gets toxic....

Commented on Myths about Canadian healthcare
I hope Jay does not share his two uneducated cents with that many fellow americans. The fact is that money goes not from, but to the U.S pharmaceutical companies. As I said, accountants and clerks are expensive. As a minuscule...

Commented on Myths about Canadian healthcare
The US Healthcare system is by a large margin the most expensive and inefficient in the world. Salary for a huge herd of accountants and insurance clerks cost a lot - and doctors being silently forced into ordering unnecessary exams...

Commented on 8.0-Megapixels is the New 3.2 (In Japan)
and don´t forget the SENSOR SIZE! Megapixel count is totally irrelevant in a small sensor. 12MP will not give better pics than 3Mp, sometimes worse because of noise. Size is the thing that matters, whích is why DSLR´s excel over...

Commented on John "Game of Life" Conway: particles have the same kind of free will that people have
- and we don´t have free will. We just think we have. There´s a large difference....

Commented on F Mount turns 50, gets a shabby cupcake and a fizzy candle from Nikon
It is a great joy of mine to mount my 38 years old 55mm Micro-Nikkor on my D200 DSLR. All hail the F-mount!...

Commented on Chili pepper science
The hot substance is capsaicin that binds to nerves (on the "C fiber receptor"). Birds lack this receptor and they also lack teeth, minimizing the risk of grinding the seeds. So: put chili in a fruit: the seeds will pass...

Commented on Radioactive pedophile suspect at large
utter nonsense. People treated with radioactive iodine for thyroid cancer or hyperthyroidism should avoid close and prolonged contact with other people for 5 days. That´s all there is to it. This is not a joke. It´s something called "facts"....

Commented on Magenta isn't a real color?
@greensteam #12: red and violet are AN OCTAVE apart. That´s why the bridging appears so "natural" - like sound, ya know....
-
Commented on Magenta isn't a real color?
we can see about one octave of light, with red and violet at each end. So it is perfectly logical for the brain to bridge red and violet, just as it bridges 440 and 880 hz. The original link takes...

Commented on FujiFilm FinePix F200 EXR actually pimps the sensor quality for a change
BTW: at 50 iso, where the noise is low, my 3MP compact produces decent A4 (7 x 10") prints. When did you use a compact for larger prints? My film camera as well as my DSLR (10mp) has been used...
-
Commented on FujiFilm FinePix F200 EXR actually pimps the sensor quality for a change
I am sorry, but Wakaman and Zoopyfunk does not understand how modern 12mp compact cameras work. As the sensors are the same size as when 6MP was norm, pixels have shrunk - and so has the output from the CCD....
-
Commented on Please Stop Caring About Megapixels
wakaman & gruppler: you forget the noise reduction! Small sensor digicams with > 10MP invariably employ strong noise reduction. As Caroline writes, the inevitable result will be pics without visible pixels - and without details. Check any dpreview or other...
-
Commented on Please Stop Caring About Megapixels
Exactly - and when trying to cram 12 MP in a tiny (not 18 x 24 mm or larger) sensor, things will get WORSE than with 6 MP: small pixels generate less current, which needs more amplification that in turn...

Commented on RIAA ditches MediaSentry, will now stop suing dead people and children in favor of asking ISPs to censor Internet and spy on the public
DtecNet has been (and probably still do) sharing offices, board and employees with lawyer Johan Schlüter, who represents the danish music Industry - "the danish MPAA". Same s***. Commented on Magnepan 3.6/R: $5,400 buys you Speakers of the Year
Joel, you´re in for a surprise. Panel speakers of any kind almost almost beat any boxed speaker. The closest competitor, the Quad 2805, is twice as expensive, and it is worth every penny/dime. But how would you know?...

Commented on Is the death of landlines a reflection on the economy?
I´m keeping the landline for two reasons: My B&O landline set offers terrific sound, making even the most inebriated caller intelligible. And I have wall sets in other rooms, so I don´t have to walk around at home with my...

-
Commented on Canon aims for digicam sweet spot with G10
ACB is spot on - please make an 8MP version. The picture quality will be superior, as you will not need aggressive noise reduction. Bob, I thought of the same problem riding my bike home today - I´m afraid it´s...

Commented on Simplified spelling lesson from former president of the American Literacy Council
