Upon reading number one, my immediate thought was "Waitasecond Robert Langdon is Batman? This explains so much!" Like how he was able to jump from a helicopter into the Tiber with only a tarp. I had to read Angels and Demons for an English class, and did the math on that one. The verdict is that he would hit the river at about the speed equivalent to jumping off a 50 ft diving board. Which it is mentioned he can do earlier in the book....

I, for one, only read fiction in which the characters do not have any traits. This solves the problem of not liking the traits of any particular character....

It's interesting to distinguish between two different things: An actual smart person, and a smart person as portrayed in fiction to a general audience. BB readers are probably familiar with how smart techies in fiction (hackers, scientists, inventors) are more socially inept than real smart techies, and have technical abilities (such as creating something polished-looking that works reliably, in no time) that are wildly unrealistic. These characters are not there to make real-world smart techies go "Oh, yeah, this character reminds me of the really really smart person who leads the research group where I work". These characters are there...

I care about words, but honestly, being snobby about "awesome" is kind of done, and even to me, a bit crotchety. (This is coming from a person who's constantly accused of being crotchety.) "Awesome needs to be banned", to be frank, sounds like it comes from someone who needs better things to do, rather than someone with a joyful passion. Ok, yes, it is overused and often used in contexts well short of its definition, but it needs to be *banned*? A rather careless choice of words for someone persnickety about meaningful communication, don't you think? Personally, my crotchetiness is...
