Commented on Cellphone contracts getting even better!
One thing that I still don't understand is why there are so few options for getting a smartphone with fewer than 450 voice minutes a month. I don't make much in the way of phone calls at all (for one...

Commented on Internet ghost-towns: the blocked IPs where the bad guys used to live
I've even seen this happen on a more short-term basis: A hosting company has several clients who try running spambots. Within a day, the spammers' accounts have already been cancelled by the host. But by that time, the IP block...

Commented on "Haiku" competition winner
Anyway, it's fixed now....
-
Commented on "Haiku" competition winner
Just FYI, the closing </em> tag on the first poem isn't quite right. It's making the rest of the page show up in italics....
-
Commented on Epoch: podcast of my story about the death of the first AI
Seconding Anonymous #4's comment - listening to a story is more mentally taxing for me than reading it, and I'd like to see a text version....

Commented on The Art of Jim Campbell: Seeing In Pixels
Apparently the second video ("Jim Campbell 2") is region-locked and inaccessible within the US. A shame, because I was rather curious to see it....
-
Commented on Bus-shelter made out of a bus
Hah, I recognized that bus stop immediately! I need to get some pictures of it the next time I'm on that side of town. I keep meaning to, but never actually get around to it. It's definitely iconic....
-
Commented on Toilet-as-computer comic
Heh, I had this on a poster back in the '80s. Not a photocopied flyer; a professionally printed full-color poster....

Commented on Sidekick servers "impacted" by outage.
Well into this year, T-Mobile was still offering a $1/day no-contract plan for Sidekick data and messaging. It's still probably available in stores, I'd imagine, though it's not featured anywhere on their web site anymore. It's a shame that there...

Commented on Boing Boing: The World's Greatest Neurozine!
There's actually a bit of a bug with your font embedding, at least in Firefox. The font loads from boingboing.net, but all the permalinks lead to www.boingboing.net. The problem? Firefox won't allow cross-domain loading of fonts without an Access-Control-Allow-Origin header....

Commented on Things that have always been true for the class of 2013
One for the Offworlders: 8-bit console games were already passé by the time this year's college freshmen were old enough to play them; the Super Nintendo Entertainment System was released the year they were born....
-
Commented on Listen: 8-bit Miles Davis tribute album Kind of Bloop released
On another jazz-turned-NES note (no pun intended), there's YMCK's Does Coltrane Dream of a Merry-Go-Round?, which takes a few cues from "Giant Steps"....
-
Commented on The surprising links between anger and time perception
#32 has got me thinking... If I just go with my immediate hunches without thinking about corporate parlance, "forward" is toward the future, but "up" is toward the past. Weird....

Commented on Phone audio quality sucks
Yeah, as several people have pointed out, this is as much an issue of landlines, and the phone system in general, as of cordless and mobile phone bandwidth. Simply put, I've never, even on a wired phone, found the sound...

Commented on Strange Architectural Typeface Choice
@Ranting Nerd: Indeed, that is the font used for signage in Babylon 5....
-
Commented on @BBVBOX: recent guest-tweeted web video picks (boingboingvideo.com)
Here's the correct link for the Japanese Harry Potter fangirl, incidentally....

Commented on Trailer: <em>2012: It's a Disaster!</em>
@Esghalis: As mentioned in the description on YouTube, it's "Okey Dokey" and "Bongolia" by the Incredible Bongo Band....

Commented on Europe, meet your new phone charger standard
Umm...the "microUSB" link goes to an article about networked video recorders....
-
Commented on Fake receipt printing service
I'd love to see a close-up of these-- particularly the Apple Store receipt, which even at a glance looks nothing like the actual Apple receipt that I have sitting here. (And it's probably set in some monospaced font or in...

Commented on One shot: MJ, in memoriam.
Let's also not forget the rumors regarding the Sonic 3 soundtrack. Sega and MJ must've had quite a close relationship....
-
Commented on Listen: DUTYCYCLE's latest chiptune/glitch/electro sampler
Personally, I'm just curious as to whether the misspelling of their name on the promotional poster was intentional......
-
Commented on Corrupted files for sale to students to buy extra time
I've actually seen a site like that-- maybe it is that site-- advertised on Facebook. Why do I point this out? Because whoever placed the Facebook ad is apparently too stupid to realize that teaching assistants use Facebook....
-
Commented on Listen: YMCK remix classic <em>Katamari</em> for PS3's <em>Katamari Forever</em>
If they haven't already hired Jake "virt" Kaufman, who's been featured on Offworld before, it should be pointed out that his NES version of "Katamari on the Rock" is utterly amazing: http://www.biglionmusic.com/music/chiptunes/katamari-damacy...

Commented on Chinese censorware will expose every PC in the nation of malware, ID theft, botnetting
Personally, this part bugs me as much as anything: Some of the blacklists appear to have been copied from American-made filtering software... We found evidence that a number of these blacklists have been taken from the American-made filtering program CyberSitter....
-
Commented on iPhone 3G S: World's Best Phone Saddled to World's Worst Carrier
I totally agree with #8... cell phone companies really need to recognize that there are people who simply don't talk for 450 minutes a month. AT&T is particularly ridiculous about this, because there is a data-only plan... however, one has...

Commented on Lampshade made from many toothpicks

Commented on Gimme Indie Game: the hidden depths of Adam Atomic's <em>Fathom</em> (with bonus MP3!)
@Alowishius: Glad to know I'm not the only one who noticed the Cave Story similarities. Of course, it probably was intentional, since as pointed out by Offworld, Adam Atomic is involved in the WiiWare port of Cave Story....
-
Commented on Rumor: AT&T to introduce limited data plan for iPhone
Why isn't there a no-questions-asked data-only plan for the iPhone yet? Admittedly, there is the Text Accessibility Plan, which I'm eligible for since I do have a diagnosed hearing disability, but still... why can't AT&T just offer a plan with...

Commented on Finally Fast!
I particularly love that the Macs shown in this ad are PowerPC models. (Perhaps that's why they're running Windows so slowly!)...

Commented on BB Video: ARPANET turns 40, and Vintage Computers in Slovenia
...But the Amiga 500 isn't mouseless! :) And I remember those magazines full of BASIC source code. Fun times....
